What is a Stretch Ceiling?
Overview
A stretch ceiling is a suspended ceiling system consisting of two basic components – a perimeter track and lightweight PVC fabric membrane which stretches and clips into the track. In addition to ceilings the system can be used on walls, as a light diffuser, floating panels, exhibitions and creative shapes.
Stretch Ceilings allow the incorporation of all types of light fixtures, grilles and fixing points by the use of a independent background supports. Nearly all types of apertures can be incorporated within a stretch ceiling.
Material
The PVC based stretch fabric material is 0.2mm thick, 100% recyclable, and is available in a range of colours and finishes including Matt, Satin, Translucent, High Gloss Lacquer, and Perforated.
The material can be printed or painted for additional effects, acts as a vapour barrier, and is entirely waterproof and washable. The material is also maintenance free, hygienic, non-toxic and is fire rated to B-s1,d0 (equivalent in the class 0).
The lightweight panels are bespoke made from roll materials to form any shape or size, typically up to 50 square metres in one piece, with a harpoon edging which clips into the perimeter track.
Track System
The perimeter track consists of either a PVC or aluminium profile and can be shaped to create curves, domes, vaults and many other forms.
Installation is carried out by our fully trained CSCS qualified operatives, with vast areas of ceiling able to be covered quickly with minimal site waste or mess.
Stretch Ceiling Installation Process
The installation of stretch ceilings typically follows a straightforward process:
Measurement and Design: Firstly the dimensions and layout of the room are surveyed to determine the required size and shape of the ceiling. The ceiling is then put into production and is manufactured with a small reduction (5-7%).
Framework Installation: The lightweight PVC or aluminium track is installed along the perimeter of the room or ceiling opening, creating a support structure for the stretch ceiling. The track is fixed at approximately 120mm centres.
Membrane Installation: The custom made PVC membrane is then stretched under heat (using propane space heaters) and clipped into the perimeter framework using specialized spatula tools. Care is taken to ensure a smooth and uniform finish.
Finishing Touches: Once the membrane is in place, any necessary adjustments are made, and finishing touches such as lighting fixtures or decorative elements are installed as desired
